Keto Tequila “Ranch Water” Recipe
Keto tequila? Oh yes!
Do you ever find yourself in the mood for a quick, refreshing cocktail, but the idea of yet another vodka/soda is kinda…. meh? Tequila to rescue! This zesty, low-carb alternative to the can be made in almost the same amount of time as your everyday liquor / soda cocktail combination. With a little tequila, sparkling mineral water, lime and a fresh jalapeño, you can enjoy a wonderful cocktail that delights your senses. A small amount of fresh jalapeño adds complexity to an otherwise straightforward mixture. It adds earthiness and a little heat without being overly spicy.
I love the flavor that comes with adding heat to a cold cocktail. In Texas, we call variations of this drink “Ranch Water” as it purportedly originated on the ranches of West Texas. There are variations of the recipe, and you should certainly experiment and make this your own instant classic. However, if you’re tracking macros and trying to maintain a keto lifestyle, this low-carb version packs in flavor without adding sugar. The only carbs are from the lime, and you can use as little or as much as you like.
You can read more about the origins of this regional classic here. For parties, I like to mix a batch in a large pitcher and serve alongside my keto queso. It’s a great cocktail year-round, but especially in the hot summers!
